Sweet Bacon Onion Jam

We wanted burgers today and had to add Sweet Bacon Onion Jam  to our P&L Burgers.

Sweet Bacon Onion Jam

We have found Bacon Onion Jam to be a sweet and smoky condiment that can be used in other dishes too.

We love to add it to our P&L burgers.  Follow this link to get the P&L Burger recipe.

We are creating a new recipe with our Jam, it is Warm Bacon Salad Dressing.

Bacon Onion Jam
Recipe type: Condiment
  • 1 lb smoked bacon
  • 5 onions, sliced
  • 4 tbsp red wine vinegar
  1. Slice the bacon into lardon (small strips).
  2. Render lardon until crispy on medium heat. Add sliced onion. Cook the onions down on medium heat until they have a deep brown colour, stirring every 2-3 minutes.
  3. Turn down the pot to low and continue to cook for an hour or more, stirring less often, approximately each 10 minutes. The natural sugars will come out of the onion, as they become a beautiful texture. When the onions and bacon look brown and caramelized, add 4 tbsp of red wine vinegar. Cook for 5 minutes.
Here on Lake Murray, Harriet and I use these kitchen products nearly every day. They're solid and dependable and virtually irreplaceable in our home.
